SKAMLINGSBANKEN – AN ARCHITECTURAL PORTAL TO NATURE AND HISTORYThe new visitor centre at Skamlingsbanken in Kolding is an architectural portal to the glacial landscape and its history of democratic events. The centre is designed as a natural and integrated part of the undulating landscape and from the overall design to the small details, visitors will experience an architecture that finds its origin in Skamlingsbanken’s unique nature and history.

A common ground for democratic culture – then, now, and in the future
Skamlingsbanken holds a central place in Danish history, and over time it has been a setting for debates about democracy, the border country and women’s suffrage.

Barry Callebaut, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, relocated its Zurich-based headquarters to a new building, commissioning Evolution Design to design the new offices.

One of the project briefs was to create a strong connection to Barry Callebaut’s culture and its confectionary products. To respond to the brief, the architects conceived a design concept that reflects the variety of flavours, aromas and textures of cocoa products.

A myriad of materials, patterns, haptics and graphics have been applied: Textures of wood and different fabrics, natural materials – like the upcycled cocoa husk flooring, saffron flower wallpaper, cork and moss – and a combination of earthy colours reflect the chocolate company’s ethos of sustainability, innovation and sensory pleasure.

«We assigned Barry Callebaut’s brand characteristics to different areas throughout the office, creating a bespoke language of materials,

Mazandaran local architecture at Northern district of Iran which has been affected by climate conditions has evolved and developed over time. Local architecture originates at districts where villagers settled. This architecture regarding the structure was completely dependent on the nature – that is to say, for construction of a building, all the components of the architecture natively have been prepared from the nature of the local region.
The employer’s demand is to create a space conforming to the local architecture while having a new view and experience of the space.
